My Brazilian is rusty but layout-wise, the site looks nice to my eyes. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> Definitely has a clean and unique look to it. Content is organized and easily accessible, does a good job of highlighting the featured content too.

03:45 - GDC San Francisco

Well, I'm flying out tomorrow morning and have a few meetings scheduled. And I'm staying at the Sir Francis Drake hotel, which is a 10 minute walk from the convention.

If anyone wants to meet up, give me a holler. I'll be at the Triplepoint and OnLive parties on Thursday night, and I've got a ton of free time that, for now, will be used to walk around and have &quot;APPOINTMENT ME RITE NOW&quot;. Shoot me an email, I'll have two phones, and at least one will work, or PM (that'll email me).

Or if you're a cool guy who knows my number, use that. Hopefully it'll work.

03:37 - E3 2010

Most pubs start booking appointments the month before, at least in my experience. I'd bring a laptop so you can use it at the hotel you're staying at but wouldn't bring it on the show floor. Lugging around a laptop all day is not fun. I brought one the first day of going last year and regretted it. If you're doing interviews, then bring along a pad of paper and a voice recorder.

As for the big three press conferences, invites to those will probably start going out next month. I'd wait until then to ask as it's still too early yet most likely, especially since everyone is busy with GDC.

Sup guys. I'm one of the heads behind the brand new brazilian gaming website, <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.gamus.com.br">www.gamus.com.br</a><!-- w -->.

High rated by our 320k monthly readers, now I'm asking your opinion about it. If you have problems with portuguese (for sure you have, lol), try the translate button at the bottom. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Thank you!

Cheers from Brazil <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

03:19 - Any of you use wordpress?

Yes, I use WordPress. With a little bit of know-how in PHP it is extremely scalable. The API is well documented making writing plugins a breeze. Plus it is backed by a huge community, tons of freely available plugins out there. At least for my uses, it's perfect.
When should we start reaching out to the publishers to set up meetings and invites for the press conferences?[/quote:1muanoxb]

I would also hope for a few tips on this - Our first trip to E3, and we'd like to make the most of it in terms of contacts. Should we be contacting anyone in advance (MS, Sony) to get noticed and invited? If so, who should we contact and how far in advance?

Also some general tips would be grand! Like if a laptop is a must, or what we should bring (if anything) each day?

03:03 - I'm back

Hello One and All,

I am back, and looking at a new beginning. For those who may remember, or may not I was the founder of GDN (gamersdailynews.com). After some mistakes, etc. I am ready to get back in. I am currently in negotiations on a site, and hope everything will go through. Chris and the gang over at GDN seem to be doing well, and I wish them well and just so everyone knows here and now, I have no ill will towards any of them. (apparently there was a rumor running around that I did)

Anyway I just wanted to say hi to old friends and introduce myself to new ones. Once I get all the details finalized I will give more info, but until it is official I don't want to say anything. I will hop on from time to time, to keep up with the latest.

00:58 - Rating Systems

Having more than 3-5 points in a scale seems to imply a more scientific measurement than is actually occurring when someone reviews a game. That said, I write for a site with a 20 point scale, so I'm not judging everyone from on high.

I appreciate the effort by CB043 to justify his 11 points. Let's take a look at them:
0 - Unplayable garbage
1 - The perfect Christmas Gift for your ex and anyone you do not like but throw away the receipt before gifting.
2 - AVOID
3 - This game has game-breaking bugs and unless you are a particular fan should be avoided.
4 - This is a flawed title, has bug issues but at least some redeeming qualities.
5 - Qualifies as a fully functional game but nonetheless is found lacking - a RENT not BUY title for sure.
6 - Has some redeeming qualities, is a RENT not BUY.
7 - This is a good game, delivers entertainment and is worth a play but you may want to Rent it first.
8 - A solid play that may have minor bugs but is nonetheless worth the price.
9 - A solid play worth the price of admission - this title should be in your library.
10 - Fantastic! You will hate yourself for not playing this game!
[/quote:11xk4vdo]

Here's my take on this system (which I'm sure you're dying to hear). 0-2 are the same as far as recommendation goes. They're both flat-out saying that you should never play the game. On the top end, we have the 8-10 range, wherein a fairly unequivocal advisement is given to purchase the game. Then there is the waffling region of 3-7. I think that bit can be broken down into 2 meaningful levels. One is &quot;pretty good, but has some issues,&quot; and the other is &quot;not very good, but if you really like this sort of thing, you may be able to look past it.&quot; Or, you could say that 3-7 is the rental zone.

Looking at this 0-10 scale as a consumer, I see 3 or 4 meaningful statements. Now, I do understand what CB043 is thinking when he draws a line between &quot;Holy crap this is the most amazing thing ever&quot; and &quot;Really solid, definitely should play.&quot; I'm not sure if that's a valuable distinction to have in a review score. Should I trust anyone to have the level of authority necessary to rate things with enough granularity to necessitate a scale that large? If you were feeding games into a review machine, and it judged various aspects of the code based on a bunch of incomprehensible metrics that were then weighted and reconciled with each other, then I would be more accepting.

I have to use a 20 point scale, and I feel like a jerk when I catch myself wondering if a game should get a 7 or a 7.5, as if I have some way of determining that in a reliable way that anyone else should care about. Naturally, I then give it a 4/10 and call it a day. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

In essence, I think Chris sums up everything he needs thusly:
Is this game fun?

Is there anything wrong with it I need to know about?

Is it worth the price of admission?

In a weighted order the most important question to the reader appears to be Rent or Buy?
[/quote:11xk4vdo]
These questions don't sound like they need 10 or so points to answer.

00:43 - Irish Journalists: We've Answered Your Prayers!

Sorry for the delay in replying guys. Yeah, I see your concerns. The companies you mentioned may be the only ones with Irish branches, but it doesn't stop us from making a list of sites, with summaries and stuff and sending it off to UK companies anyway. They might see Ireland more importantly then. As for the number of members, even if we have only fifteen helpful regulars, then that's potentially fourteen informed replies to a very specific question you may have. If you're still interested, do send me a PM with your email address.
